The September 2011 Consumer Reports rates eBooks Readers. For regular sizes (6 inch screens), they rate them in this order

- Nook Simple Touch
- Amazon Kindle 3g + WiFi
- Sony Daily Edition, PRS-950C
- Kindle WiFi
- Kindle WiFi with special offers
- Nook Color
- En Tourage Poket Edge
- Sony Touch Edition PRS-650C

For small models (5inch screens) they rate the Sony Pocket Edition first followed by the Alluratek and Ectaco.

The PRS-950 is a 7" reader, isn't it?

They meant 6" to 7". There's also a chart for the 5" screens.

Ans this is why the Kobo Touch was not included:

Even if the Kobo shipped earlier, it wasn't a worthy contender (at that time). It's sure to make the list next year with the excellent firmware updates.

I'm curious as to why the Kindle 3G version scored 4 points higher than the WiFi version?

Probably because 3G is slightly handier and requires no nearby wi-fi? Also better for the non-tech-saavy.

I have to say that Consumer Reports just does a really poor job on most reviews of electronics.

I'll refer to Consumer Reports when I need a new vacuum cleaner.

Haha. Consumer reports. I don't trust those as far as I can throw another consumer.

Or motorcycles.

Actually, I don't trust them with any product that has more components than a cornflake.

If the 3G is so great then the Kindle should be ranked above the Nook Touch.

The last time I relied on Consumer Reports for anything, it was a vacuum cleaner. Worst vacuum we ever bought, too!
