Plucker Input Area on Palm T|X
I have just started using Plucker to read ebooks on my new Palm T|X handheld, but I can't get rid of the input area (onscreen keyboard) which takes up the bottom third of the screen. Tapping the icon in the bottom right-hand corner doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas? Thanks. Eroica |

I haven't used Plucker, but programs that aren't formatted to run on the full 320 x 480 screen area will leave the grafiti/keyboard area up continuously. (Many apps are only written for 320x320 - the size of a screen with a "hard" grafiti area. Even though it'll run on a larger screen.) I don't know if Plucker is that way or not. I do know that eReader will access the full sized screen area.

I think eReader is a waste of time for commercial books. I cannot stand the formatting.

I'm using version 1.8. I don't recall having to install a special version of Plucker to use the full screen and I don't see any setting that pertains to this. |

At a guess, you are running an older version and need to upgrade. Go here: http://www.plkr.org/dl Grab the Plucker 1.8 viewer package, and install it on your device. (If you don't already have it installed, be sure to install the sysZlib.prc file as well. That is required for viewing Plucker docs created with the "high compression" option.) Plucker itself can live on a card in the /Palm/Launcher directory, and Plucker will see documents in /Palm/Programs/Plucker, /Palm/Launcher, or /Palm/Ebooks. Syszlib.prc must be in RAM. It's a shared library, and also used if available by LionDoc, PalmFiction, and WeaselReader. _______ Dennis (Who has about 2,800 ebooks in Plucker format on his device.) |

![]() The input area has disappeared and Plucker is now using the entire screen. Thanks again to everyone, especially Dennis. I think I will be keeping a close eye on this forum from now on. Eroica. |

A couple of other things you might wish to do: By default, Plucker tries to rebuild the Library list every time you open it. If you just have a few documents stored in RAM, this is not a problem. If you have a lot of documents on a card, this can be time consuming. (It takes about a minute on my 200mhz device with 2,800 books on a card.) Go to Preferences/Manual, and set Update list: to Manual to have Plucker only update the list when you tell it to. Under OS5 on hi-res devices, Plucker can use custom fonts. (See Preferences/Fonts), and let you select different fonts for documents and the library list. An assortment are available. By default, Plucker assumes you will use the Plucker Desktop to "pluck" web pages for later offline viewing, but it can handle local content as well. I have a lot of Plucker documents, converted from Project Gutenberg HTML, Baen Free Library Zipped HTML offerings, and other sources. To make life easier, I use a freeware Windows tool from Rafael Fetzer called PDA Converter. PDA Converter is a GUI for the Plucker parser. You select the options you want, and PDA Converter generates the proper command line and calls the Plucker parser in a sub-process to do the conversion. (I use high compression, include images in full color, with thumbnails linking to a full copy, and assign the desired title and category when I create the Plucker file.) PDA Converter can also produce Palm "doc" and zText files. Go here: http://www.jakewalk.de/wiki/pmwiki.p...e.PdaConverter ______ Dennis |

But for OS5 you can make your own smooth (antialiased) fonts out of TrueType fonts with EasyConvert: www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?xyz=104888 |
