newto nook color
I just bought a Nook color and really love it. I had a Nook 1st edition and thought that was the best, but when I tried out the color, I had to have it. I am a complete tech dunce but would love to put CM7 on an sd card and have both stock and CM7. But as I said I am a complete dunce when it comes to tech things. Is there a tutorial that will tell me exactly what to do with my sd card and walk me through the steps, in english please. I have been looking on the web but I have no clue about any of the terms used.
Or maybe I should just be happy with what I have. I have loaded books and movies and searched the web and I am going to download Angry Birds and of course, read. I really do love this thing. ![]() |

Lots of tips and pointers regarding CM7 at the top of the screen in this forum (NOOK Developer's Corner):

I've had my NC since February and rooted two weeks after getting it. There's lots of helpful tips here in MR. I also like this guy's website and check it frequently for news on ereaders and tablets:
http://www.the-ebook-reader.com/nook.html I was happy with my rooted nook but the fear of the 1.2 update and this post was what finally convinced me to try out CM7 on an sd card: http://quinxy.com/guides/how-to-pick...stall-options/ I'm currently loving CM7. Enjoy your new nook! |

I guess I ddn't make myself clear. I am a tech dunce. I have read the forums both here and on the web and I don't understand. My husband is a systems manager and refuses to help me so I am on my own. I have followed the tutorial on youtube from the Crash Tech dummies and now have cm7 on the sd card and on my Nook. My problem is my WiFi does not connect, or stay connected. Google tells me I have no internet connection, when I went into settings I put in my encryption key (my husband did tell me it was the password) and it says secured, then disconnects. The wifi scans again, it connects and disables. What else do I need to do to connect to the internet and get the apps?

Press Menu, then in Settings/Wireless& Networks/Wifi settings, press Menu again, press Advanced, then change Wifi sleep policy to Never. That might help (or at least can't hurt). The Nook has a tendency to drop wifi connections when the screen goes to sleep otherwise.
Are you able to use an unencrypted connection? Last edited by wayrad; 06-28-2011 at 02:56 PM. |

Tried that. It was a suggestion from another forum. If you mean an unencryped router connection, no. I went back to stock Nook and it works fine. It must be the cm7 on the sd card.

I have tried turning off wifi and rebooting and turning wifi back on, turning wifi off, rebooting, turning bluetooth on and turning wifi back on, resetting my router, nothing seems to make a difference. Should I just wipe the card and start over?

Hmm, I am no expert, but if it works with stock but not CM7 on an unsecured connection, I guess the only things that could be wrong are the CM7 installation, or perhaps it doesn't much like the particular card you're using. But I could be wrong.
FWIW I have been having good luck with CM7 nightlies (currently on 114) with either Transcend 8GB class 6 or an unclassed Sandisk 2GB. Last edited by wayrad; 06-28-2011 at 04:12 PM. |

I have a Sandisk 4G. I have always used Sandisk, but maybe it's a bad one. I am going to try wiping it and reinstalling CM7/
Thanks for the advice. |

At the current time the most reliable stable version is CM 7.0.3 Many people using the nightlies have wifi problems. Do yourself a favour and try stable cm7.0.3 if you you didn't already LINK |

I am using stable cm 7.03. Wiped the card and reinstalled. No problem with the install. get to the "set up wi fi" and it and it sees my network, but it is as if it 's in a loop. It see's it, secures, then disables, over and over again. I have tried everything and nothinhg works. I guess it's just a problem with the cm 7 because the stock OS still works fine.

I'm running CM7.0.3 stable on a Sandisk 8g Class 2 card, and I haven't had a problem with wifi.
What class is your card? Apparently, the lower the class the better for running the OS from. A larger card would probably be better, too. After install, I only have about 5g left, so a 4g card is probably already close to full. |

One thing I have noticed recently was my wifi sometimes disconnected and then re connected seconds later when used at a distance from the router. I remembered that I had changed my CM7 cpu settings to conservative so have switched back to performance (I think that is what it is called) I noticed immediately my signal strength went up a tiny bit. |

Megthered, you haven't tried to flash an overclock kernel, have you? If not done correctly, it can cause wifi errors among other problems (as I discovered yesterday, but all is well now). Last edited by wayrad; 06-30-2011 at 07:29 AM. |
