Kobo wifi screen hosed
I've searched, but couldn't find any posts with similar problems.
Last night, I sat my Kobo down for a minute and when I picked it up, the screen had no text, but faint lines running horizontally across. The software appears to be responding to button pushes, but the screen only displays more lines. Here are some pics: |

Is it still in warranty? If it is they will replace it. I had something very similar happen to me.

Purchased last December, should have warranty coverage. I opened a ticket with them and sent photos, today.

Try to go into the sotre you bought it. You might be lucky enough that the replace it on the spot, even if it's more than 10 days since you bought it.

We had the same (well, similar) thing happen. Screen froze up like a bar code.
I am very happy with them today because they stood behind their device and sent Hubby another one after we mailed our defective one in. He is happily reading again right now, and it seems faster and better in several ways than the one we bought at Borders last Christmas! First - try their helpful hints and if that fails, email AND THEN CALL them. They were slow to answer our emails - but that first email will assign you the ticket number you will be using over and over, best to have it in print. They were wonderful on the phone (aside from the usual wait. Its a free number though!) http://kobo.zendesk.com/home HTH Last edited by Shushan; 11-26-2011 at 09:54 PM. Reason: grammar |

Well, I can't say that I'm exactly pleased with Kobo's customer service. It took them more than a week to give me an RMA, and then I heard nothing from them. On January 15, forty-one days after I returned it, I sent an email asking what was going on. I recieved a quick reply stating that they had received it, but hadn't yet determined what to do with it. Finally, today I received an email telling me they would replace it, but no longer had black in stock, would grey be ok?
Now, I'm happy that they are replacing it, but it's been more than two months since it broke. That seems excessive and unacceptable. |

Finally received my replacement Kobo. I am very displeased with the time it took and with the quality of customer service after I shipped it off. It seemed that once they authorized the return, that they couldn't be bothered with keeping me apprised of what was going on. After shipping it back, I never received an update that wasn't a response to a query of mine. Rather than letting me know that it had been shipped and providing me with a tracking number, it just showed up one day.

After I wrote on this thread the last time the replacement Kobo also croaked. It ran fine at first but DH set it aside in its case because he had some physical books he was reading next. When he tried to use it again at least a week later...bar code!
![]() As it was sitting on a shelf in a case after regular gentle use, all we could think was that the repair (it was a refurbished unit) hadn't held. It did that power button flashing many times thing, the pc can't see it..all like the first time. ![]() I let them know about the failure around mid January and then played email tag. Usually a few days to a week goes by between answers. We finally got offered an RMA - and also were told that black wifi's are gone, is grey okay? Sure, fine. We mailed the defective unit back to them. We know they got it Feb 18th and... we're still waiting to hear back about the replacement unit. I mailed them a polite reminder 2 days ago. Hopefully this will jar someone's memory ![]() Patience is definitely a requirement when dealing with Kobo! ![]() Last edited by Shushan; 02-29-2012 at 09:47 PM. |

Here's an amusing thing. I still haven't gotten an email response - however, the replacement just arrived and its a dark grey Kobo Touch! An upgrade! DH is tickled, because it looks and acts a lot like my Nook.
![]() Only sad thing was the lack of pre-loaded classics. (He was reading those.) But I assured him that I can easily replace that on MobileReads and ManyBooks.net. That's not a biggie. Firmware is set on 1.9.9 - what I read about the later updates online has me thinking we shouldn't update that part yet, but I haven't read all the threads yet. ![]() Okay, right now we are real happy with Kobo again. Seems the wait was worth it! ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Shushan; 03-01-2012 at 05:22 PM. |

I would update. You gain a fair bit of extra functionality if you do. Worst case if it doesn't work well for you, just do a factory reset and you'll be back to 1.9.9
