Hello all,
Thanks for the great forum - it's been really helpful to me in picking and setting up my new reader. That said, I'm about to make a rather odd request. I bought a PRS-950 from Best Buy last week. It was the last one they had and they couldn't find the box for it. I didn't really mind all that much except for one issue. They insisted that the PRS-950 doesn't come with an ac adapter but they gave me a micro usb cable. I took them at their word but when I checked with a friend he insisted that it does. I called them to request an adapter but they checked the specs on the Sony Website and the spec there omits the fact that the ac adapter is in the box. So the Sony website - and nearly every spec sheet on the internet as a result - says that it only comes with a usb cable. The actual box on the other hand says it on the back. As far as Best Buy are concerned they won't do anything unless I can produce evidence better than the Sony Website - ie a box. As they didn't give me one I don't have one to produce and they don't have one either. My friend apparently threw his box away when he bought it. He's just that type of person. So...... my rather odd request .... Is there anyone on this board in the vicinity of Portland Oregon who has a 950 and a box who would be willing to lend me the box so I can show the people at Best Buy? I'd only need it for an afternoon. I know it's an odd request but I didn't think there would be any harm in asking - especially as charge time without the adapter was 6 hours and none of my other adapters work. Thanks for wading through that!! Best regards, Raj. Last edited by RajS; 05-25-2011 at 11:06 PM. |

Not in Oregon, but the box from the 950 that I just bought from Best Buy lists the following as being inside the box:
The AC Adapter is just a plug-in with a USB jack -- you plug the cable into the adapter instead of your computer. |

I would think you could insist that Best Buy call one of their other stores that has one in stock and have them read the box to them as proof. There must be another Best Buy in the US with one in stock, I've seen them at my local stores.
It's odd they won't accept the Sony website information though. Amazon even lists the power adapter and shows an image of it: ![]() Last edited by Ripplinger; 05-26-2011 at 12:10 AM. |

Thanks for the replies chaps.
I'm afraid they're not willing to go to that much trouble. They've checked BestBuy stock in our local area and it's not in stock so there isn't a box to be found. They won't look further afield. Even our local SonyStyle store haven't got one. As for going by the Sony website - they are - and that is the root of the problem. The Sony website doesn't mention the ac adapter - only the actual box does - which is why I need an actual box. I think part of the problem is that now they've looked at the Sony website they think it doesn't come with an adapter and that I'm somehow trying to con them out of one. As almost every spec on the net for this product copies the Sony site they're nearly all wrong. Thanks for the kind assistance though. Much appreciated. Thanks for the pic. I might try that if all else fails but it's from an external seller and they also unhelpfully provide a pic of a booklight. Last edited by RajS; 05-26-2011 at 12:19 AM. |

Here is a scan of the back of my box. At the bottom it says the AC adapter is In The Box. The cable just plugs into it like many USB power supplies; however this one can supply 1500mA. It will charge faster than a PC's USB port which I think supplies 500mA tops. It would be nice to have if they could find it.
Best of luck! |

From the Sony site on the specs tab for the 950, it has a link for the Owner's Manual. On Pages 19 and 20 it lists the AC adapter specs, which it wouldn't do if it wasn't included, and on Page 22 it shows the AC adapter in the diagram. Maybe you can get them to place a toll-free call to Sony and ask them to verify the contents of the package.
Edit: And on Page 24: Quote:
