Kincle 3 versus Nook Color - Best eReader?
I've been using the Kindle 3 now for eBooks since last summer. However, my granddaughter requested a Nook Color so I purchased one for her.
Now I've been reading the Nook Color User Guide and it seems intriguing. Which is the best and clearest eReader in your opinion at this moment in time: Kindle 3 or Nook Color? I'll be using it just for reading eBooks. |

If it doesn't make any different reading on an LCD screen vs an eink, then personally I think the nook color. It offers more options and features and clairity and a true contrast ratio of black to white (as opposed to shades of gray) that only the technology of an LCD can offer that eink can't, at least not yet.
but it's going to come down to you though, does the nook color offer features that the kindle doesn't that you want or like etc. I also have the nook classic (eink) and I actually find the two compliment each other very nice. I am a huge outdoor reader, so my nook classic is perfect for out on my deck etc. At the same time my wife and I like to have low lighting at night in the living room, then my nook color is perfect for that. To be honest with you , if money isn't an issue, then I would recommend having both, your Kindle and a nook color. I don't view it as an eink vs lcd but more like a great companion to each other. I have both and the only time the nook color gets used as an eReader is for color magazines and for the interactive kid books we buy for our youngest son. It beats the Kindle in PDF files but I still use the iPAD for those. When I read plain books (95% of my reading) I use the Kindle 3.
Nook color plays one heck of an Angry Birds game though. |

I have both and prefer the Kindle for reading books. I use the Color as a tablet - watch videos, surf the net, do email, and play with tons of free apps.

After rooting my Color, Angry Birds was the first app I downloaded. It's awesome on the Color's 7" screen.
BTW, the second app I downloaded was Kindle for Android. It was my way of saying: "Hey B&N, look what I just did!" |

For reading (the main purpose of the devices), the kindle is way ahead.

The Kindle3 far surpasses the NookColor as an e-reader. The battery life is much better, the screen is easier on your eyes, it reads outdoors and in, it weighs about half of the NC, it comes w/ 3G for downloading books anywhere (including overseas; the Nook 3G can't even do that) it presents you with the books and not a lot of distractions, etc., etc.
The NookColor is an appealing little tablet however--I may pick one up as a side device, but I can almost guarantee I won't be reading on it. After 8-10 hours a day staring at a light-bulb (my laptop screen), I don't want to stare at another. |

Love my Kindle! The NC was just a little too heavy for comfortable holding.

The Nook Color is not a true reader, it supposes to be a tablet. Hmm, wait ... has no Android Market by default ... hmmm... so what the Nook Color really is? ![]() You do not need color for a novel, that is just a really good way of waste money or satisfy your own desire of buying a gadget. For true reading experience and the closets to a paper like feeling, the Kindle. The Nook Color could be good for Magazines or Interactive content, but with the poor stock applications, no way to do landscape (you can on the Kindle 3, which is 50% cheaper) bad stock browser, heavy weight, fails in several aspects of what a tablet should be. Go ahead, reply that you can root it. But you do not suppose to root or hack something in order to work, it should work out of the box. Besides, warranty is avoided the second you do it. And I believe is not moral or good, bring it back to a store if you fried or brick the device after doing something that is not officially supported. To the OP For a true reading experience, novel or books, the Kindle. It can be used outdoor without any issue. Out of the box, the Nook Color, as a readers, fails miserable; the stock applications are just bad. If you really want color or would like a device for Magazines, games or Interactive content, there are plenty of options out there better than NC: iPad, Galaxy Tab, Asus. Yes, a little bit more expensive but remember, you get what you pay for! |

That's funny. By the way, let me remind you, I owned a Nook Color, I owned a Nook .. I talk with experience, I am not jumping into Kindle's forum to give an advice when I don't even have a Kindle. |
