Out of US kindle problem
Sorry if this is long:
I have had my kindle for over a month...I still can not transfer via computer books i purchased via Amazon, I can get other books from internet sources, no problem. Background I live in Guatemala. Kindle was purchased in US but only wifi is there, no wifi here. Yes, I know about download to computer and copy or move to kindle document file. It shows up on Kindle but says "the item is not available. please delete and reload from archive." There are no items in archive. I believe the problem is that the Kindle is not registered. i tried, and have registered it (s#) on-line but the kindle it self shows that it is not registered. i would have assumed (silly me) that the on line registration would be transfered to the kindle via the usb connection. Any solution, or am I off base with my assumption of the registration being the problem? |

You can't connect via a wifi hotspot, like a cafe, or a library? It's what i use since I don't have wifi at home. I just go on a hike, find one of the aforementioned spots and trun my wifi on. So, judging by my own experience, it should connect to wifi.
When I bought mine, I bought it from the general Kindle page without specifying my country. The device shipped across the globe, I got it and it connects to wifi without any problems. Yes, unfortunately, before you can create collections and manage your stuff, the Kindle needs to be registered. |

hmmm - interesting. I know that you have to make a whispernet (3G or WiFi) connection once to manage collections etc, but I always thought you could register via the website and download books.
When you purchase via your computer are you choosing to download a book for Kindle for PC/Mac or are you specifically downloading for that particular Kindle? Regardless, if you're tired of messing with it I'd recommend you strip the DRM w/ Calibre + Plug-ins and move them over to the Kindle that way. |

Thanks Abook reader:
I would think registering via manage kindle would work as well, then perhaps the registration would be transfered via usb. But it seems NOT. I am not sure why not, but that is as it is. calibre is a program? I am not familiar with it. Yes I am tired of paying for books, stuck in download, or could only read on free....kindle for pc.....seems silly of amazon to make it so hard jim |

I am not certain but I think it was ascertained on another forum that he has a K2 which does not have wifi (I am not certain about k2 specifications). I think it was the serial number posted.

I'm a bit north of you, in Mexico, and have no problem. It would help me if you'd tell me which Kindle you have. Kindle3 with WiFi, where you use a router to connect to, usually, a DSL line or a Kindle3 with both WiFi and 3G, which uses a cell phone connection, or a KindleDX which has 3G only.
