Question Damaged eBook Repairs

I have encountered an ebook in my Calibre Library that cannot be opened in the built in reader or converted to any other format. Attempts to open the book (lit format) gives this error:
calibre, version 0.7.46
ERROR: Could not open ebook: Extra closing tag

Traceback (most recent call last):

LitError: Extra closing tag
Clearly, this is the book, and not a problem with Calibre. I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with this issue, and can the error be corrected (keeping in mind that I'm not very experienced with Calibre yet, or ebook technologies)? Perhaps there is place to learn how to fix a damaged ebook? Any advice is most appreciated.

thanks,

DJ

Save it to disk and attempt to open it with a different program that could "save as" in a different format or convert the file directly.

Is it in .lit format? I am not too good at reading the traceback but there are several applications out there that can convert a .lit book.
Here is one of them and it is free:
http://www.convertlit.com/download.php

If it still bombs on conversion it may not actually be a .lit file. Someone may have put the wrong extension on the file. I have quite a few .rtf's that are actually .txt's and once the extension is changed they open just fine.

Good Luck and Happy Monday

The line: "File "site-packages\calibre\ebooks\lit\input.py", line 23, in convert" might betray it

Oh, I had that once. I managed to convert it with the convertlit tool

I thought that too, but the older I get I am getting better at NOT assuming things. When I do, it makes me look dumber than I feel.

Also, I am not a programmer, I fight for the users.

Long live the revolution!

It is smart of you not to assume a directory name (site-packages\calibre\ebooks\lit\) means anything.

On the other hand when the Original Poster states that the book is in lit format that might just be a clue.

LOL

I didn't even see that I guess I was focusing on the error message printout.

Or.....maybe it was being obscured at that moment by a "Somebody Else's Business Field".

It could have been that...really!
