iPad safe on the treadmill/elliptical (@ gym)?

Just got an iPad, and I was considering using it on the treadmill and/or elliptical to read books and watch movies. I was worried about the rocking on machine though that might cause the device to fall.

Does anyone use an iPad at the gym currently?

When running on the treadmill you need to maintain your posture, and look forward, if you look slightly downwards you could hurt your neck. Especially during sprints

I do use the iPad on my elliptical. I use a monitor at eye height on the treadmill.

I use mine to watch TV on the treadmill every day. I think you'd give yourself a headache trying to concentrate enough to read a book though.

I've read print books, and books on iPad and Kindle, while on a treadmill, on a rower-type machine (using just the leg exercise part) and on a stepper. I just hold the book or device. It doesn't require a lot of effort -- not even enough to be considered upper-body exercise.

Whatever I feel like doing at that moment. Usually magazines and books. Movies et all are too slowpaced for me during a workout.

On a treadmill, it depends wether it's my recovery day or not. On recovery days I walk 30minutes @4 km/u, so I can do some browsing and watching series/movies at that time.

I have bought a cheap iPad holder and prop it on my elliptical btw (with tiewraps). So I can click it in place when needed and turn it to landscape/portrait as needed

Ehm.. not scared you're gonna drop the device? Or are you're not running that fast?

I tried using the ipad on the treadmill, but when running @6+ km/h, it really doesn't help my posture when I look slightly downwards.. After a 30-minutes workout, my neck will be strained because of all that bouncing......

I set the treadmill to walk at a steep incline. Easier on the joints than running, and I can read. No problem hanging onto a device. Less trouble than reading print books, especially hefty ones, though I've perversely done that, too.

(offtopic: if you run barefoot (or minimalistic) with an appropriate technique for midfoot/forefoot strike, your joints will be OK )

Hey, has someone a tray holder because I like to eat while I'm on the threadmill because beyond 10 km/h stoping the sauce of my tortellini making a mess is hard and the wine spills a little...

People! Just stop reading while running! Jesus christ! I can barely look a the nice curves of women while at the threadmill and not trip and faceplant on the display ... >_> Not even walking at 6.5 km/h would I attempt to read. Music that's it... and no more.

I guess it depends on the individual, I prefer to fast walk rather than run on a treadmill (7km/h), and don't have an issue. It would obviously also depend on the layout of the treadmill and how high the shelf is. I use a 10% slope, so that raises the front up a bit anyway.

Er.. I'm confused.. You hang on to the iPad when you're on the treadmill? Or do you just set it down on the holder?

I hold the iPad. (I spelled that out in post No. 5, my first post on this thread.)
