Sony cases w/ light "No longer available"

Hello all,

Noobe here. I surprised my wife with a new Sony 650 for Christmas (she's been wanting an ereader since the first Kindle came out), and my folks bought one for me also.

So, here we are with our new Touch readers ...sans cases. It's amazing to us the lack of cases for the 650's given their apparent popularity. We've both been handling them like eggs until we can find a good case for them.

I know there's another thread here about 650 cases, and it is a little helpful. Personally, I really want a case with a light as I have taken to using the 650 on my bus ride home from work. I really like the lighted cases that Sony had, but am wondering why they are "No longer available" from Sony. I assume that means Sony has discontinued making them, but I have yet to see confirmation of that nor a reasonable explanation of why they would do that for such a popular model ereader.

I know this is not Sony's own forum, however does anyone here have any information why the PRSA-CL65's are NLA?

Thanks in advance,
Tim

P.S. What she and I are in agreement about for case requirements are a stiff but soft-lined case (so as to protect the the screen from damage), one that either opens like a book or flips up like a steno pad, one that securely holds the reader without using any adhesive (e.g. for velcro), and lastly, one that is budget friendly. As stated above, add a light (LED) for me.

I really liked my Case Logic for my 600 (and the 650 fits) Sturdy, protective, hard like shell, opens fully and be zipped in the open position.

No liight, but you can pick up a clip on LED light from many sources.

Whereabouts are you tk_? I have the red PRSA-CL65 case for my 650 and I love it. They are still available in Australia.

I expectthey'll release some more. Must suck waiting. I personally have the unlighted case with a mightybright travelflex which works fine. I didn't go with the lighted case because it adds bulk.

Are they really no longer available are are they out of stock? We've seen this glitch with the black 650 where it said no longer available when it was just out of stock.

Discontinued...

When I bought the last lighted 350 case at Border's last week, the manager mentioned that they were discontinued because they weren't selling well.
Just thought I'd throw in what I heard....

well, they are awfully expensive - $50 for a cover - but I've seen some on amazon for $37 or so, so there might still be some in stock somewhere.

Thanks for all the great replies! I've been reading the different forums on this site for a couple months now, and you are all very helpful. This seems to be a great site with a wealth of knowledge and very helpful people.

Seems like the only Case Logic cases we have seen have been very flexible. I'll have check again, maybe we missed something.

I keep hoping they're just out of stock, especially since it seems the 650 is fairly new...

Seems like all the stores have the 350 and 950 readers, but the 650's are hard to find. I keep reading that the 350's are too small, which is the one reason we went to the 650.

Thanks again! If anyone does hear whether or not the lighted covers for the 650's from Sony have been discontinued, please let me know.

and like them both, the none lighted is a bit smaller for carrieng in my jacket, but the lighted is great for when I read in bed, but i find I use my Cruz Reader alot more that before, I just need to buy a case for it now...lol

If you want the red case with a light, bhphotovideo.com has it in stock.

They list the black one as discontinued.

A vacation to Australia to pick up the covers would be good. Although we are sweltering in heatwave of 42ºC (107.6ºF) days here in Sydney, while Queensland deals with the aftermath of the floods last month and now has a Category 5 cyclone about to hit.

My daughter bought a black lighted cover yesterday at our local Borders and it was the last one in stock. They said they didn't know when they would have any more. They are still in stock on the Borders Australian website though -
