Question Wikipedia on the Kindle 3 - a pain in the butt

Hi,

I'm new here, but it seems like a great, lively place you got here.

Anyway, I just have a quick question for you all-knowers out there !

Okay so when I'm reading a book on my Kindle (3) and I come across something that I want to look up on Wikipedia do I then really have to take the long a slow rute by going through the experimental menu and start the browser and so on ?

I would have imagined that one could just highlight the piece of text and then choose a 'Wiki-button' for quick and painless access to Wiki, but, alas, I cannot seem to find such a device/hotkey.

I know that the browser is just a experimental thingy, but, really, how hard would that be to add ?

Much appreciated,

Kenneth

You can highlight the text (Enter, cursor), copy to the "clipboard" (press Space), then cursor down to your choices (Cancel, Clear, Save & Share, etc.), keep going to the right until you get to Wikipedia, hit Enter.

It's easier and faster than it sounds...

Yep, it fairly simple. First make sure your wireless is on. Then go to the word or phrase and highlight it (move the cursor to the beginning, move right until the entire phrase is highlit). Now hit the spacebar (don't hit the enter key or the 5-way). This puts the phrase in the search bar. Then use the 5-way right until you get to the wiki choice and press the button. That brings up the article you are looking for.

I suspect that between the two sets of instructions, it'll be pretty idiot-proof ;-)

I'd like to add that you needn't turn on your wireless beforehand. If you're interested in maximizing time between charges, you should simply leave wireless off. Should you "request" an action (like a Wikpiedia search) that requires connectivity, you will be prompted to turn on wireless (without interrupting your query), and you need merely turn wireless off once you're done.

You'll be surprised at how quickly a charge will deplete should you leave wireless on all the time...
