How to transfer content to 2nd Kindle?

I have a latest generation wifi Kindle which I am giving to my wife as I have bought a 3G Kindle. Both Kindles will be on my account.

How do I transfer the content on my old Kindle to my new one? As they will both be registered to my account is this simply a matter of downloading previous purchases to my new kindle via the Your Orders section of the Manage Your Kindle page... or are they tied only to my old Kindle? I have previously purchased both books and games... are they treated differently.

All help greatly appreciated.

Go into your account, then to Manage your Kindle. Make sure both Kindles are registered to your account, scroll down to your books, then deliver to the one you want

Assuming the new one is registered to your account, you could just go into the archive on the new Kindle and download the books you want.

unless you have changed their names, they should be "john's 1st kindle" and "john's 2nd kindle", your newest one will be the second one. highlight the books you want and direct them to the 2nd one

As others have said, all of your Amazon purchased content can be downloaded to your new Kindle via the "Archive" folder on Amazon's server. Other content has to be handled differently.

The actual files for the purchased content on your old Kindle are tied to that device. Almost all of Amazon's content is licensed for more than one Kindle device provided they are registered to the same account. When you download from the Archive to your new Kindle the file will be freshly tagged for the new Kindle.

Any content that you have that is not burdened with DRM (e.g. content downloaded from MobileRead, ManyBooks, Project Gutenberg, ...) can simply be copied from the old Kindle to computer and then copied onto the new Kindle.
