Anyone have a nook color AND an iPhone?

or iPod touch? 4th gen?

This is kind of a xpost, as I asked the same question in 'which one should I buy', but what I'm wondering is if the NC's text is noticeably less crisp than the new iPhone's retina display? If you read on that and then go to the NC, does it seem OK? Also, do you find the size difference to be worth getting a NC? Often, the iPod Touch is all I need (and anything bigger would be hard to hold since in these circumstances I hold it one-handed. But other times I wish I had a bigger screen (like reading on an exercise bike where maybe with the NC I could put it on the book holder, which is too far away with the Touch).

But if the letters look like they do on the iPhone 3g on the NC, then I think I'll pass... I guess the ppi is very similar, but it's larger, too, so I assume I'd have the text a bit bigger....

I wish there was a B&N close enough to justify going down to look at one, but there isn't.

Thanks in Advance!

I have an NC and an iPhone 4. I had the same concern when I got the NC. The screen is not as good as the retina display obviously. However it's much better than the original iPhone screen! It is also better than the iPad screen. It doesn't bother my eyes to switch back and forth. Actually I like the LCD much better than I expected! You can change the brightness and also the background color when you read. I like the 7" screen, and it's better for web browsing than the iPhone screen. I was hoping they'd come out with a 7" iPad, but Apple said no to that size. The NC is a great device. The screen resolution seems to be best in class for its size.

No iPhone but I do have the iPod touch 4G which also has a Retina display. You are absolutely correct in that the 4G with the Retina display is far superior to the older models without it. The older models had too much space between each pixel which human eyes can see and it causes problems with some people after reading for an extended time. The same problem occurs in many LCD monitors on computers. If you look carefully you see the individual dots (pixels) on the screen and the tiny vertical and horizontal lines that separate the rows and columns of pixels. The older iPhone and iPod touch screens have 320px x 480px on their 3.5" diagonal screens. The new Retina displays have 640px x 960px, so those tiny lines separating the pixels are much more difficult to see and result in a much better reading quality.

My NOOKcolor (NC) has 600px x 1024x on its 7" diagonal screen. The pixels per inch are about half 169 on the NC compared to the iPhone Retina display's 329, but both displays look very sharp and neither shows the lines separating the pxels. It is those lines, and how thick those lines are, that have the greatest impact on reading. With the lines (dark spaces surrounding the individual pixels) not noticeable on either the iPhone or the NC, the reading experience is terrific.

I too bought my iPod touch 4G for reading when I wanted a very compact reader that fits in my pocket, but for me the reading experience on a tiny 3.5" screen is not that good. I did it for years with various PDAs, but it was never that great. The Retina display makes it better, but the small screen crowds words and makes it difficult to even get one paragraph completely on a screen. I find that I rarely use my iPod touch 4G and will probably sell it at some point. Price-wise, the NC costs just a few dollars more than the iPod touch 4G but gives you much more.

Thanks! That sounds promising. I know I can always return it if I don't like it, so I think I might just have to try it out. I wish I could see them side-by-side to see the size comparison. Maybe I'll check youtube for another 7" tablet, because I couldn't find a side-by-side with the iphone and NC.

Some stores carry both. Try Best Buy if you have one nearby. I bet you could see both demonstrated, though no guarantee on that. I certainly would not go by a degraded video on YouTube viewed on a PC monitor with less resolution quality than the items I was comparing. You really need to see them in person to appreciate them. Best Buy also has a few other Android based tablets, and I think when you compare the NC screen to them you will see how terrific it is!

I have an iPhone 4 also... and was thinking the same thing when I was shopping around for a tablet.
I didn't want an iPad (too expensive, and too big) but I also didn't want something that was cheap and hard to look at.
Compared to the other tablets I shopped, the Nook's screen was the best... not as good as my iphone, but close enough.
I'm happy with it!

Magazines are great on the NC too. The 7" screen size makes a big difference.

Thanks! I might stop in to Best Buy today. I didn't realize they would carry them.

I forgot to mention that the iPod touch 4G has terrible battery life compared to the NC. The iPhone might be better, but the touch has way too small of a battery. I'm not sure why Jobs wants to make the touch so thin that it has little battery life and is nearly impossible to hold unless you add a case to it, but he insisted they build it that way. I would have preferred fatter with larger battery. The NC battery will last around 8 hours or more, the touch perhaps 5 hours.

The battery life is about the same for both. Approximately 10% per one hour rough estimate.

Sounds like they put a larger battery in the iPhone than in the touch.

I can get over 10 hours on my iPhone depending on what I'm doing but probably average about 8 hours or so. Sometimes less, sometimes more. I leave 3G on most of the time on my phone but have brightness at maybe 40%. The NC battery life has been pretty impressive and close to the spec of 8.5 hrs or so. I keep brightness in the NC about 10%. I don't worry about reading and listening to Pandora at the sane time. I keep Wi-fi on all the time too.
