Any success with Review Direct?

Hey all,

Just wanted to see if I could get some additional insight onto an email "offer" I've received a few times this year.

A company called the Jenkins Group has sent me some information about two marketing services they run, one called "The Critic's Bookshelf" and the other, "Review Direct."

For a fairly substantial fee, (substantial being relative to the fact that I'd never heard of these guys before) both services promise you the chance to appear in newsletters that they personally send out to publishing contacts they've culled and honed in over a 20 year period in the book marketing business. In addition, they essentially offer you the ability to have your book reviewed for major publishers as well.

There are other details involved here that I can share if needed, but I just wanted to see if any of you had heard of the Jenkins Group or received similar emails. And if so, had you had any success with them?

Because after some research... I'm starting to see a fairly large amount of folks say they weren't too happy with the service.. some going so far as to use the word "scam"...

Any thoughts you might be willing to share would be greatly appreciated!

Yog's Law: Money flows toward the writer.

The problem with this, or any other similar offer, is that they get their money from the writer rather than from the publishers or reviewers. The problem is that this means their focus is more on finding ways to get writers to pay them (that's what keeps them in business) rather than getting books reviewed or taken up by major publishers. They have no real incentive to get your book in to those publishers because that doesn't pay them anything.
