Best Bible For Kindle (newbe)
I just got my Kindle 3 wifi 3G today and I am looking for the best version of the KJV Bible. I have never had an Ereader before so if anyone has any advice or ideas on books or any thing else I should know please let me know.

Osnova Bibles
On Amazon search for "Osnova Bibles." They all have Direct Verse Jump which allows you to type in "Jn.3.16" and get right to the verse.

Other Bibles do NOT have this feature.

I am biased, but I would agree

If you are serious, then you should get the OSNOVA KJV Bible. I'd say it is closest to reproducing the original (no typos, all the text from the paper copy, even the original translators' notes that many paper copies do not include) and has the best navigation available for the Kindle.

If you want more bang for your buck, then buy the Unabridged Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible (best Kindle navigation, includes KJV Bible). It incorporates the KJV Bible with the six-volume Matthew Henry's Commentary.

The KJV is a truly appalling translation. You'll do much better with a modern tranlation.

Well, appalling for today, yes. It wasn't an appalling translation in the 17th century though. Given the resources available to them it was a rather competent translation, the fact that people still use it today boggles my mind though.

Other than to hear the aesthetics of some of the poetry, there really is no good reason to use the KJV.

The problem is not the translation as such, but rather the very poor source material used. The primary source for the KJV New Testament is a single 8th century manuscript, which is today regarded as not being very accurate. Modern translations are produced by looking at all the available source material (which is now enormously more than were available to the 17th century translators) and using modern techniques of literary analysis to make informed judgements about what is likely to be the original reading of the text.
