Question to people from England (or maybe the whole UK)

Yesterday I bought a box of biscuits. What caught my eye, besides that they looked tasty (and indeed they are ), is that they are advertised as "English-like biscuits." Being the obsessive person I am, I searched google for pictures of English biscuits without luck. So I want to ask if English (or British) people know these triangular tasty biscuits or if it is just an advertisement stunt.

The maker is listed as Upper Crust Bakery from Phoenix, Az (USA). The biscuits are made of integral flour (I think wheat) and feature raisins, cranberries, and almonds (see the attachments).

Thanks in advance

Well, they don't look like any quintessentially English biscuits that I've encountered. However, the various regions of the country have traditional local biscuits, and I daresay I've not had the pleasure to sample them all...

They don't look like English biscuits to me. Entirely too fancy.

English biscuits are things like Digestives, Rich Tea, Bourbon, Custard Cream, Nice.

They are circular or oblong. They usually do not have inclusions (well, except Garibaldis, but I've never liked Garibaldis). They are almost always good for dunking in tea.

It hasn't been updated in a while, but http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com/ is quite fun.

Don't look like any English biscuits I've ever seen. 'English-like' sounds pretty dodgy to me.

Come to think about it, they're probably even less English than English Muffins (which are almost never seen in England). Crumpets and tea-cakes are common, but muffins are very rare.

They look like scones with something added. But scones are not biscuits.

I believe the baked goods in your pictures are some type of scones: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scone_(bread). It's not what the English would call a biscuit. I'm not sure why the bakery would call them that.

English muffins are not English? What a fraud! All these years I thought I was eating a piece of the white Albion

What about "English mint"? They sell "English mint" flavored candy.

Even the TV advertisement features a guy with a dark suite, bowler hat, and an umbrella

Maybe it is a mistranslation. The label is in Spanish because, although this things are made in USA, they are sold in Mexico. The label reads "Panecillos estilo inglés" (literally "Small English-type bread"). I translated the word "panecillos" as "biscuits" because they are soft and sweet, not unlike a sweet bread we call "bisquets", which is a Hispanization of the word "biscuits".

The things added are cranberries, raisins, and almonds.

Yes, these things looks like a kind of scone.

And thanks for the links, I didn't know that "biscuit" has a different meaning in the USA than in the UK. I used the word in the American (and Mexican) sense:

Quote:
In the United States it is a small soft leavened bread, somewhat similar to a scone.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biscuit

I really don't know how the bakery call this bread. As I said above, the label is in Spanish.

I was thinking in drinking tea with biscuits like an English lord, but I guess it will be as an English-type lord

Mints in England are usually Peppermint, occassionaly Spearmint. Usually as Polos or Trebor Extra Strong.

I suppose there is Kendal Mint Cake, which is a very English sweet.

And although it's not actually a mint, there's Fisherman's Friends, which are certainly English. And very strong.

But I don't recognise the picture of your mints.

I wonder if the biscuits are not some kind of shortbread with bits in - Costa Coffee sells something that look a bit like them.

As for the mints don't forget mint imperials
and Everton mints
