Can I still read the ebooks, bought on Amazon, with my Kobo Sage?

I have a Kindle Basic and a Kobo Sage. I prefer to read my ebooks on my Kobo.
Amazon has discarded the Download & Transfer option, which I used to store my books on my HD from which I sideloaded them via Calibre to my Kobo.
Is this still possible one way or another? I could and probably will buy my books elsewhere but I find that several authors that I follow, only (self) publish on Amazon.

Thank you. That is helpful. Good to know that there are still ways.

There is also a program called Epubor https://www.epubor.com/ which costs $29.99 and is a very effective way of both stripping DRM and converting to epub at the same time.

It's a rip off of the open source solutions. People are feeding a parasite if they use it. They've added nothing!

Epubor uses the same open-source deDRM plugin, they just charge you for it. If the plugin stops working, so will Epubor.

However you strip the DRM of your books, if you wish to maintain the original CSS of your kindle books (without converting them which modifies the css somewhat, but not breaking it) there is a plugin for calibre called "KindleUnpack - The Plugin" which essentially changes the container of the ebook keeping the contents of your ebook intact as they appear in a azw format.

To add it open calibre, open preferences/settings ->plugins ->get new plugins - search "kindleunpack" and follow instructions to install it from there.

Here is a link to the plugins page on the forum
