Hi, Lisa.
Are you hoping to find ebooks at Fictionwise that your Sony Reader will read without converting them? Then you want to look for books with an extension PDF or LRF. The format "eReader" (which used to be called "Palm Digital Media", and before that "Peanut Press", format) is for reading with a specific software program - eReader program - on computers, PDAs, SmartPhones...but not Sony Reader. (Well, not unless you break the encryption and convert the book to the Sony Reader's LRF format!) Fictionwise doesn't sell a secure (or "encrypted") format for the Sony Reader. You can find the LRF files for Sony Reader in the multi-format book selections, though. BooksOnBoard sells the secure Adobe Digital Editions PDF format that the Sony Reader can read. I think there's been a lot of confusion with Sony "Reader" and "eReader" format - and Fictionwise tries very hard to warn buyers that eReader format books are not meant for the Sony Reader. If you've already bought the book but haven't downloaded it yet, you may be able to arrange a credit back from Fictionwise. HTH |

FictionWise MultiFormat ebooks work on the PRS-505, as do their Secure Adobe PDFs (although they seem to be phasing out Secure PDFs).
Books on Board sells both Secure Adobe PDF and Secure Adobe ePub (both work on the PRS-505). If you are comfortable stripping DRM (encryption) and you have a Windows PC, then I suggest buying MS Reader (LIT) ebooks and stripping its DRM using "ConvertLIT GUI". Calibre will then format shift the DRM-free LIT to ePub or LRF for your PRS-505. Note that stripping DRM may not be legal in the US, even for personal use. Since you already have an eReader ebook, the python script ereader2html can strip its DRM and Calibre can then format shift it to ePub or LRF. If you like FictionWise, buying eReader ebooks is slightly cheaper than other formats and the result of format shifting for the PRS-505 should be as good in many cases as with LIT ebooks. |

In order to "encode" your book, the FictionWise web site has to connect to the eReader DRM server. It was unable to do that at the time that you tried to download, and is asking you to try again later. As others have already mentioned, "eReader" is entirely the wrong format to buy if you have a Sony Reader. No eInk device will read eReader books. |

Fictionwise is probably - in my opinion - the most understanding distributor of ebooks out there.
Even though they state publicly that once you buy a secure format, you can't return it, you should still email them and explain the situation. Only in one instance have they ignored me, and this was for a misspelling of a book, crippling the look-up of this title (Re: "Wierd" instead of "Weird".) But that's ok. My wife ignores me, too. Hahahahahah, that's a joke. (I just got married!) ![]() ![]() Email them; you won't lose a postage stamp. Don |

I have made mistakes and Fictionwise have always allowed me to download the "correct" version. Great service so I continue using them, even when they are a few cents more than some others (which is not very often!). Email them.

They may be understanding, but I wish they would answer emails. I still can't get my "one free $10 eBook" offer to work after having joined the Buywise club. It's probably just holiday work schedules, but two emails over the last week are unanswered.

You should be able to exchange it (and maybe even return it) if you have not downloaded it.
