Annoying problems

What I guess would be considered minor problems is really bothering me. The book I am reading I own on as ebook (bought from Amazon) and audible. First issue is that whispersync does not work and it should according to Amazon. I have read and tried various things, deleting book, reloading book, deleting audible book redownloading audible book etc. I have not tried gargling peanut butter yet but I mean really, it should not be so hard to get stuff to work.

Second issue is that I cannot "share" my progress to goodreads from within the book on my kindle. When I tried I get an email from Amazon telling me to go pound sand (Unfortunately, We were unable to post your progress update). Which by the way is sent in a malformed html email that does not render properly so it displays at raw html.

Anyway, I really like my kindle and when the ecosystem works it is a thing of beauty but when it doesn't it makes me very sad.

Yes, it syncs in that if I open kindle app on iOS device things sync up. But audible does not. Then on kindle itself I cannot share reading location to goodreads.

Does the ‘headphone’ icon appear on the Kindle book as listed on library view? If not, then the Kindle is not going to sync reading position between the book and audiobook.

I assume everything works on iOS (including immersion reading) with this title? Does Goodreads update work with the Kindle app there?

I don’t listen to audiobooks with my Kindle but have had a number of issues with Whispersync for Voice over the years: titles that ‘should’ support it but it is not working for my account, and titles that support it when I purchase the book/audiobook, and then later on it stops working, works on one device but not another, etc. Customer support has been able to resolve these every time (usually Audible support and not Kindle support) but it is annoying that it happens in the first place. It breaks sometimes when there is an update to the ebook (e.g. ASIN changes) or audiobook.

Email support is generally not very helpful in resolving issues. Have them call you, contact Audible about the Whispersync for Voice issue. I haven’t had good luck with chat support, they are multitasking and that doesn’t work so well.

I don't listen much to audiobooks but I have tried it out and they synced just fine with my Kindle books as long as they're a matched pair. As an example of what I mean I bought "Friday the Rabbi Slept Late" a few years ago before they had whispersync for voice and not long ago I bought the audiobook to give to my sister. I decided to reread the book so while I was at it I tried syncing them but it didn't work. The audiobook isn't matched with my version of the ebook.

I called Amazon about this and they said that to make it work I'll have to buy the ebook again to get the latest edition, which is the one they've matched with the audiobook.

They have multiple editions of ebooks and also of audiobooks, often with different narrators. If they aren't matched they won't sync. Being the same book isn't enough.

I'm just guessing this is your problem. At least it's something you can check.
