ADE books problem
I really hope someone can help
![]() I deleted authorization, authorized via ADE again, got same result. I deleted and readded books, turned kobo on and off, redownloaded book from kobo to try. Should I downgrade firmware? Try again in different sequence? the books from kobo open nicely on pc. |

And some people wonder why I dislike DRM so much!
![]() I suggest you make the acquaintance of Apprentice Alf. He has an interesting blog. |

Yes, ADE on pc opens book stored on kobo normaly.
I need ADE for my library books, since kobo books have kepubs in case all else fails but really, what went wrong? It worked fine before reset. |

I'm asking about .kepub.epub because it could be that your account with Kobo is broken somehow. .kepub.epubs, (books bought in Kobo bookstore) don't use ADEPT or ADE but Kobo own DRM scheme. And if you use Kobo software in your PC, that software always favours Kobo flavour of epubs. So you might think you have a problem with ADE and epubs, and your problem would be with Kobo and kepubs... |

For the purposes of this testing, I would suggest using ADE to copy the ebook to your Kobo. One oddity in what you wrote above is that the factory reset would have deleted the activation.xml file from the .adobe-digital-editions directory in the root of your Kobo's internal storage so it should have required a re-authorization while your experience was that the authorization survived the factory reset. So time to check a few items. Connect your Kobo to your computer and open ADE, hopefully you should see a KoboeReader show in ADE under Devices. Click on the Gear icon and select Device Authorization Information. Note the email address and AdobeID (copy and paste into a text editor works for me). Close the authorization information and click on Help. Under Help, click on Authorization Information. Check the email address and the AdobeID are the same as for your Kobo. If they don't match, you will need to remove the authorization from your Kobo and re-authorize it so they will match. Once they match, leave your Kobo connected and try borrowing a library book. Once ADE shows the library books as being in it's library, right click on the newly borrowed library book and select Copy to Computer/Device and select KoboeReader. Safely disconnect your Kobo and see if you can now open the DRMed ebook. If you can, then I would suggest saving a copy of the .adobe-digital-editions directory in the root of your Kobo's internal storage. You can copy it back after a factory reset so you do not need to go through the authorization procedure again which will eventually have you into calling Adobe for a extension on the maximum 5 devices per ID. Good luck! Regards, David |

Ah, I had forgotten about library books. It seems to me most likely that the ADE authorisation on the device has been wiped or changed. I'd try using ADE to unregister and then re-register the device. But I don't have much experience actually fiddling with ADE and device registration.

I did lose authorization. I reauthorized it and ADE normally saw device, authorized it and still couldn't read books. Then I did factory reset and reauthorized device again and this time it worked. I have no clue what I did differently second time, but at least it works. Thanks everyone!
