multiple editions of same book

Hi, I have multiple editions of the same book. The only difference might be in the title, like an additional release number, or publication date. Mostly the contents is 99.9% identical apart from some removed type errors.
What is an easy method to remove the oldest edition and yet retain the original date of initial publication?

Same way you would add an additional format (without conversion)...
Drop the New version into the metadata edit window for the book you want to update. It will replace the existing format without changing the metadata

Or you can drag/drop onto the book details panel in the comments area of it, if you happen to have that displayed, to avoid even opening the Edit Metadata window.
