				String freeze preparing for 0.5

Anyone intersted in translating Sigil, now is the time to get started. I'm instituting a string freeze for 0.5. The current version in HEAD is 0.4.805 and no translatable strings will be changing until after 0.5 is released.

I've also created a base ts file for translators to use so they don't have to have the full Qt translation tools installed. See this and this for more information. *Note: For those of you who might ask when 0.5 will be released... My goal is shortly after Qt 4.8 is released. |

Does that mean you'll be using Qt 4.8 in 0.5 and onward? Will that include any incidental performance improvements like the move to 4.7 did?

Yes. 0.5 will require Qt 4.8.

Probably but I haven't looked into this. There is a new feature in 4.8 I want to use to fix a bug with the focus handing when moving between book and code views. |

This probably won't be terribly difficult on Windows and Mac. Will there be any difficulties in installing it on Linux machines already using some (probably earlier) version of Qt?

The Linux installation package provided at the Sigil Google Code page bundles Qt. Only people wanting to build from source will need to worry about having the right Qt version.

Does 4.8 finally fix the embedded fonts bug too?

I did some looking into this, and it seems like the QTRawFont API should replace whatever thing it was that the bug was in. It's just a matter of when that API gets integrated in the stable version of QtWebKit (the stuff I read seems to indicate it should be available alongside 4.8, but user_none doesn't think so and he's the expert) and altering Sigil to use it.

So, the problem has been solved, it's just a matter of waiting for the solution to work its way to us. |
