Eh? I've had all my libraries in Users for 15 years on 7 different computers. Never had any permission problems.

Not everyone does. But I have read of a number of people with permission errors. So it's best to stay out especially if you are not a techy.

No need to reset the computer. You just have to copy the correct directories to th correct places.

That is the current installed default after the original "MyDocuments" was synced out of the box. Kovid made the change a long while back.
I suspect other factors are causing the current issues (3rd party A/V, Non ASCII user name, some other sync tool)

To be clear, My active LIBRARIES (more than 1) are not in the default location . I use the default as a test bed library and that has not caused issues

I've not had any problems with the default directory. But others have. that's why I don't recommend using your profile directory to hold your working calibre libraries.

Jon, I have only seen a few mentions of people who have had permission issues with placing their calibre libraries in their home directory. The more likely case is where the calibre library is placed in their Documents directory synced to OneDrive. If you are having permission errors in your home directory, you really need to fix the issue. By default, a user has Full Control permission plus everything else checked on their home directory and those permissions are inherited by all subdirectories/files unless someone blocks inheritance.

See Default Home Folder Permissions for instance.
