LARK - Libre Audiobook Reader for Kindle
Latest release: 1/3/2026

LARK is a simple M4B audiobook (AAC encoding) reader optimized for Kindle. HF version (firmware 5.16+) only.

Native C++/GTK application based on KinAMP's audio engine and FAAD2 decoder library.

Download it from the releases page, then unzip it to the root of the Kindle.

User guide and source code on my Github repo

Librivox has a good list of free public domain audiobooks created by the community. To get their books in M4B format, search them on the Internet Archive and select Librivox Apple Audiobook as download format.

Support this project by making a small donation. All proceeds will be donated to local charities.

Thanks to bozza111 who came up with the idea of supporting audiobook formats with KinAMP.
LARK might still miss some important functionalities. I'm planning to add chapter and bookmark support in the future.
I'm also open to feedback and suggestions - and maybe other contributors to this project.

It would be convenient for me to listen to books in mp3 format and, of course, chapters and bookmarks as you said. Thank you!

Good idea! I think I'll create a unified decoder backend for miniaudio and faad that could be used in KinAMP and LARK, and decode MP3, FLAC, WAV and AAC formats.
