Kindle "Location" Question

I'm certain this has been asked before but search as I may, I haven't been able to find a satisfactory explanation.

When I sideload some epubs, even using STK, onto my Kindle, there are no page numbers to be found just "locs". I've tried re-converting to an epub using Calibre but still the same result.

Is there a tweak I can perform on the epubs using Calibre or do I have to grin and bear it?

Many thanks.

Amazon page numbers are matching a paper edition. Adobe page numbers are based blocks of storage, not files, paper pages or screens. Kobo kepub page numbers are nearly pointless as they count "screens" so vary with size of font, line spacing and margins.

If you want "real" page numbers, like in some Amazon supplied ebooks, you have to insert them manually!

Thanks Quoth I can understand that.

"If you want "real" page numbers, like in some Amazon supplied ebooks, you have to insert them manually!"

Is this something that Calibre can do as a process?

How could it automate? You'd need a copy of the paper edition. You can then use the Calibre Editor. There are several schemes of HTML + CSS you can use.

You'd search for a phrase at the bottom of a physical page and then insert your desired code. However that isn't how Amazon does it, though it works on ANY format and device or app.

There are many ways to do it. A few PD texts have it in the text, but I find it annoying so I usually delete it.

It's of no value except for a particular paper edition, maybe used in a classroom or lecture theatre where the teacher/lecturer says, "Now go to page 271.", and it's obnoxious in a novel.

I use % chapter read and % book read on my ereader and don't sync. Instead I search for the last phrase I remember.

Sorry I hadn't really thought it through. I think I'm just going to live with it as it doesn't affect many of my books.

I had hoped that it would be straight foward but never mind, I'll just get back to reading and not looking to find page numbers.

Many thanks.
