That checkmark had been broken for a long time and was recently fixed. When you turn off the checkmark, the KF8 (AZW3) watermark remains as originally intended.

I did this and they said that it's due to their contract. Evidently if they sell through other providers they can't use Kindle Unlimited, this pays them per page read.

Sad really as I really liked their books, I but can't carry on with their newer books.

I like my Kobo and there is no way I'm buying a Kindle with this sort of draconian policy.

Paid by pages read on KU vs paid per book on all platforms? Do the really thing they are coming out ahead?
Is there work so poor that being paid for 1 chapters pages (and the rest is abandoned) by many or a full book because it is worth reading by loyal readers?
(Not a KU customer. I have bought hundreds of Kindle books and converted to my current device until they put up a higher wall. Those authors can no longer have a chance to get a sale from me because they think KU makes them MORE )

It's probably not because their work is poor, but because there are tens of thousands of authors just like them competing for readers' attention. More readers will try a totally unknown author in KU than are willing to pay full price for their book.

It would be a lot easier to see if you could provide us with a diff of the original OPF vs the changed OPF. It's not that easy to compare the wto with graphics when the text is all bunched together like it is.

And no graphic images of the text please.

The only thing I don't know is if the KFX watermark is removed. Do you know if this is so?

But that is what 'look inside' is about. That is the online equivalent of pick up a book and flip pages. So is Big A is paying for customers misusing KU to do a look inside , or why? (I suspect it is misuse of KU)

If the book is the first book in series, you may give the second a good if the first is not too bad. Whereas if you had to pay extra, you'd probably give up after the first book.

I do think a lot of KU eBooks get read because they cost no extra.

There are still too many authors and too many books, and not enough buyers for all of them. People usually have limited budgets for books; they might read far more books with a subscription-based model than they'd be willing to individually purchase.

The number of self-published authors in KU is pretty staggering. There are a lot more of them than there ever was with traditional publishing.

I know a lot of people who use KU who wouldn't have a clue how to "misuse" it. They just happen to love many KU authors and blow through series after series of these favorite authors. It just works for how they read, and they feel no need to buy and own books.

By misuse. I did not imply deliberately. My 'browse example is what I suspect runs the numbers up. KU might be a way for a NEW indy to get their foot in the door.

An example of an author on KU who made it big is Hugh Howey. He published Wool on KU.
