Where does Calibre expose the Creator / Translator role.
Using the external program 'EPUB Metadata Editor' I am able to set a Translator or Editor for a book separate from its author (via the creator/role drop down). This is stored somewhere in the EPUB metadata as it appears again when I re-open the epub in EPUB Metadata Editor.
I can't seem to find where this extra information is exposed in Calibre for editing. It would be nice to see it on the main edit metadata page. Does this exist? Thanks - |

Not from the MDE (views).
AFAIK you can only see that (role=) in the books OPF (not controlled by Calibre). I have been manually adding various role-types into the Authors column: Joe (trans) Mike (creator) Sam (illus) Betty (ed) BTW the () does not mess up the sort. You could create a custom column (#roles. ) Since identifiers is not a custom type, creator:Mike, illus:Sam it gets ugly. matching a name with a role. ![]() So I stick with my method. Maybe someone will write a PI the scans for roles and makes the entru into Authors (this requires no change to Calibre) |

Calibre doesn't support roles for authors and contributors.

this is exactly how i have been setting up my library.. using suffixes in brackets for additional roles:
(ed) - editor (trans) - translator (cont) - contributor I thought this was working really well, particularly as in the "Author Sort" field, everything in brackets is ignored.. perfect. However, I have now realised that although ignored in this field, they are not ignored in the Authors field that shows in the tag browser or the book details view. This means that if you have an author that has written some books and edited others (George RR Martin) they will show as 2 entries in the tag browser and if you click on their name in the book details view, it will only show results for either entry, i.e. George RR Martin or George RR Martin (ed). The tag browser view doesn't even show the suffixes, so not sure why they don't just combine the entries under one author, so when you clicked on George RR Martin it would show all works either written or edited, etc. I thought I might be able to get around the book details view issue by using "Author Sort" instead, which does ignore the bracketed suffixes, but clicking on a name using this field only serves up 1 result, rather than all books listed under that author. If there has been an update or I am missing something, please let me know thanks |
