Hacks Request for infos: Jailbreak Kindle PW2 5.12.2.1.1

5.12.2.1.1 is the lastest Firmeware version of the Kindle Paperwhite 2.

I precisely have the PW2, PW2IL (serial 9017).

To jailbreak a PW2 you first need to downgrade it. When trying to downgrade the Firmeware using this method, the downloaded Firmware (update_PW2_5.4.3.2_initial.bin) is deleted by the Kindle as soon as the USB device is ejected.

I was hoping to jailbreak my Kindle so I could install Koreader.

I looked at a lot of posts and wikis and I could not find a clear information about the state of the yet non-jailbreak and up to date PW2. I figured there is no known way to jailbreak those old models.

I am posting here so I can get any additional info I would have missed and so people looking for the information can refer to this post in the future.

For 5.12.2.1.1, and anything between 5.10.3 and 5.13.3 (inclusive) should try this KindleBreak JB https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=4105735. This JB method doesn't require software rollback at all.

BTW, firmware version 5.8.8 or later won't allow you to install an earlier software update.

Thank you, I was able to jailbreak my Kindle and install Koreader. It works flawlessly.

In January I was able to jailbreak my Kindle PW2 5.12.2.1.1 with the "KindleBreak <= 5.13.3" https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=4105735
I installed KOreader and was happily reading.

Unfortunately my Kindle updated itself to 5.12.2.2 and the JB got lost, KUAL did not start anymore.

I resetted my Kindle PW2 and tried the "WatchThis JB <= 5.14.2" https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...ndle+jailbreak
But this did not work. After being in DEMO Mode and "Sideload Content -> Done" I was stuck. The script did not start at all and the jailbread therefore was not working.

Then I registered my Kindle again and tried the "KindleBreak" again.
With no luck. After following the instructions and putting in "file:///mnt/us/kindlebreak.html" I just got the feedback that the search did not find anything. No jailbraking. Seems that 5.12.2.2 has been patched against the vulnerability of 5.12.2.1.1

I checked all information I could find regarding PW2 and 5.12.2.2 but the results were not consistent. Even after searching I am not sure if it is possible to JB PW2 on 5.12.2.2.

My question: was anybody successfull with a JB on a Kindle PW2 on 5.12.2.2? If yes which method? What was the trick to be successful?

I miss my KOreader - any help would be appreciated!

In the meantime I tried again the WatchThis JB and I can confirm that it works with PW2 and FW 5.12.2.2

I am happy again
