PW, FW 5.6.1.1, winter break, coplate's KUAL, white screen
Hello,
The title has the tldr version of my situation. I used WinterBreak to jailbreak, applied the hotfix, installed mrpi, installed Update_KUALBooklet_c6ac782_install.bin, ran ;log mrpi, but get the white screen. I see the KUAL FAQ says I could get a white screen and to use coplate's version, which I did. Is a reset of the PW in order or does someone know another way to resolve this? Thanks for any help, Doug Last edited by dmck; 06-12-2025 at 07:06 PM. Reason: started again |

I just downgraded my KT11 (serial number starting with G092) to 5.16.2.1.1 for armel instead of armhf. When I try to install linkss via MRPI I get "Really failed to remount rootfs RO A reboot is recommended". After a reboot and a reinstall I get the same error and the linkss folder is not created on /mnt/us afterwards. Any assistance would be appreciated.

@Gruztn By registering it to an Amazon account? Or by keeping the device always in airplane mode.
IIRC there were report made by other people about DevCerts / MKK getting cleared on unregistered older Kindle models when device gets online and registering fixed that problem. |

The previous version of KUAL stopped working because the old keystore expired. You can get around that just by having your Kindle's clock set to a date before it expired. The old keystore is included in the MKK installer. You should install just that and not the DevCerts update. Here's a download link for an old version of KUAL that should work: https://storage.gra.cloud.ovh.net/v1...0250103.tar.xz |

Hi Spartan-Heavy, sorry for radio silence... looking at kindle-mkk-20141129-r18833.tar it only has a directory called Dev Certs - can you please point me to the MKK installer keystore you mean ...
btw. I installed the update_setdate_B009_dxg.bin via root on the kindle - that's a mistake, no, given what you say above about making sure the clock isn't up to date (screenshots of current dxg file creation/modificaiton dates), but again not so sure how to set the clock without connecting to wifi... best and many thanks for your generosity and help to all! |

Copy it to your Kindle and use the "update your kindle" option. That installs the old keystore on your Kindle. Quote:
You can check the clock by entering @time in the search bar on the Kindle. |

KUAL permissions have expired, then Not signed by a registered developer
Having the same problem as a lot of other people on this thread.
I had the "KUAL permissions have expired" problem, which I understand to be due to expired certificates. I updated the DevCerts from the binary in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...postcount=1295, which I now understand will not work properly on my Kindle DX Graphite. I now get the error "The title is not signed by a registered developer." If I understand correctly, the only answer to the original problem is to reset the clock to a time before the certs expired. I'm not sure I want to do that, it's going to play havoc with the "most recent" dates in my documents. But first, how do I undo the DevCerts update to get back to where I was at the beginning? |

Then I tried to updated the DevCerts, to no effect. I have now reverted to KUAL 2.7.29, my original version, but the "The title is not signed by a registered developer" error persists. How do I revert the DevCerts changes? |

Also having the same problem on my K4 trying to run KUAL... i manage to get it to work through the following process:
- flash new firmware through Kubrick - update k4 to 4.1.4 - install jailbreak - install mkk (Update_mkk-20141129-k4-ALL_install.bin - install mkk (Update_mkk-20250419-k4-ALL_keystore-install.bin - add KUAL-KDK-1.0.azw2 to documents (KUAL v2.7.37, i think it's the latest) after these step KUAL is working fine. As soon as I connect to wifi i get "This device is not authorised..." even after trying to rename `/etc/uks` to e.g. `/etc/uks.disabled` as it is stated on the wiki to prevent updates. also placing a folder in the root directory (forget the exact naming of the folder) didn't help. After reading a little in this thread about the kindle's clock I think it might be that the Kindle updates the clock after getting internet connection, thus rendering the cert useless. Also i read that disconnecting from wifi and restarting or reinstalling mkk should fix it again, which is NOT the case for me. The only fix that works reliably for me is to completely flash a new firmware and redo the whole process above. (probably again because the clock resets, idk I am a noob). This is really frustrating, cause I would love to be able to use KUAL for my project, which requires the Kindle to be connected to wifi for image polling. If anyone knows what I need to do in order to finally fix this, PLEASE help, cause I am going crazy. (already flashed it 8 times now, thanks Kurbrick tho). |
