I couldn't agree more. My questions were about my Kobo. I was asking for help, which I received in abundance. This obsession with my computers operating system is insane.

Version 1.48 is the latest that will run on XP. Version 3.48 is the latest for Win7, so the OP should be able to update to 3.48 at least. As the Win XP support ended in 2009 and the Glo HD was released in 2015, it's not likely that 1.48 supports the Glo HD.

As I mentioned in my original post, I have 1.48 installed, but I also have a portable version of 3.48 that I use exclusively for the Kobo. The 1.48 works with my old Kindle Paperwhite (2013), my Likebook Mars (2018), and my MobiScribe Wave B&W (2023). It used to work with my Kobo, but for whatever reason, now it doesn't.

Curious. because on the Calibre website it says "If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, please use calibre 3.48". However, I got a portable version of 4.23 and it works fine.

*EDIT*

I tried installing the KoboTouchExtended plugin to version 4.23 and I couldn't. I tried several versions, including the one I installed on my portable version of 3.48

IIRC, most incompatibilities are due to GPU drivers. Sometimes it works anyway.

FWIW I ran XPpro for the longest. I started Windows with W3.1, which also supported my DOS networked devices (I later went Netware 4.2)

Now comes the differences in opinion
VISTA was a PITA (at least when I went upgrade from XPpro on my AMD Athelon)

To me, W7 did fix a lot of holes (I had used BSD at work) and it gave me Media Centre (HD TV recording).

I tried W8 while waiting for doors to be unlocked in the MS demo room. I HATE TILES. (UBUNTU went down that path )

Then W10 undid some of the (perceived gains) by removing Media center and no longer having drivers for my older HW. At least W10 is stable.

My one foray into W11 was frustrating. They buried, moved or dumbed down the users ability to do much of the stuff we had been using since W3

Also, 7 Windows machines (Celeron, Core duo and i7, AMD) and NONE will pass the W11 HW check. And I can't even use the 32 bit HW as a Remote Desktop Connection TERMINAL (That was how I did my initial 900 Calibre entries of my Paper Library that was on My home office tower. REMOTE, not a share)

So as you can see, 900 users, 1000 opinions
I actually liked Windows 8.1. I had a laptop that came with it installed. The reason I liked Windows 8.1 was because I very quickly found Classic Shell that added in a proper start menu. I've run Windows XP, 7, 8.1, 10, & 11. I don't see any reason at all not to go from 7 to 10. There is nothing at all wrong with Windows 10. IMHO, it's blatant paranoia and sheer stupidity not to upgrade 7 to 10 (64-bit).

Then there would be a "B" and all of my music folders that started with a B would be there. Then there would be a "C" and all of my music folders that started with a C would be there. You get the idea. Now "Group By Name is a gigantic block of A-H, I-P, and Q-Z. That's completely worthless.

And XP could remember the size and location of hundreds of folders. After that? One... the last one that was opened. I'm sure lots of people are swayed by the bright colors and round corners, but I'm not. Everything after XP has been crap. And each pile of crap is bigger than the one before it.
XP was a candy colored mess of a UI. Windows 7 did away with that. Windows 10 works well and better then 7 ever did. Plus, most people who ran 7 ran a 32-bit version and most who ran 10 ran a 64-bit version. Also, with Windows 10, you can run the last version of calibre and get all of the advantages.

However, calibre 8 needs Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11.
