The Soul screamer series by Rachel Vincent is pretty good. There is a free short story prequel available.
Holly Lisle have two YA novels out, the Ruby Key and the Silver door. No idea if they are available as e-books, though.

yeah, it's amazing how many people never read beyon the first one. I should check on the whole series. it should be in the public domain right?

I'll check the screamer. I know I've read some Holly Lisle (can't remember what), but as I recall it was good!
