Trust me, five years from now you will be using something of a cross between the Kindle and an iPad. There is no reason whatsoever that you cannot use an iPad to read and not bother with the rest of the stuff while you are reading. And once color eInk comes along, Amazon and Apple and Google and others will all flock to it.
But for the present, I agree with you, I'll keep my Kindle and see what the market comes up with in a few years. I certainly would not purchase the first version of the iPad, just as I did not purchase the first release of the Kindle or the Sony.
Looking forward to firmware 2.5 on my Kindle for the sharper fonts and organizing books into collections. Even without it, the Kindle is GREAT!!!
