I think my dread started at about age 7 when I saw a scary clown movie. Several things have reinforced it over the years e.g. Seinfeld's pagliacci show. It wasn't till my late thirties that I came to terms with it and now I occaisionally hve a little twinge of fear, but I can cope.

Reminds me of Soldier of Fortune computer games a few years ago. I had to turn down the gore level to play with the Shotgun.
