I'm not having any problems at all with short battery life. The long life that I'm getting is one of the big advantages over my Acer netbook - which does only get 3 - 4 hours.

Are you sure your settings are all optimum - i.e.you're actually using the power saving option, etc.? Or maybe you have a problem with the battery itself? The HP support assistant has extensive information about battery life along with specific tools to check its condition. There's also information about calibrating the battery if that's required. It's almost a case of 'too much information' - there's so much help. It might be worth reading through, as you should be able to get the claimed performance.

There's also a setting elsewhere on mine that gives you a box to tick to automatically switch to the less power hungry graphics option when running on battery.

They all seem to work as they should.
