You cannot damage the device by changing settings unless you apply firmware updates. The manual will have a procedure to reset the device back to factory settings and you can start again.
Perhaps you could take it to a friend with DSL and use the CD.
It will work for you once the settings are correct. Perhaps the tech support line can help if the first call is free?
