I don't think that's it. Amazon wants to sell books first and foremost, and kindle's second. How does Stanza fit into either?

I'm not surprised that there will be no Stanza for the iPad (saddened, but not surprised). I'm surprised that Amazon has improved Stanza for the iPhone even after buying them. I think the best book reading ideas from the Stanza team will be incorporated into the Kindle for iPad app (and, let's hope the Kindle app for iPhone).

At that point -- the rest of the greatness of Stanza is actually counter productive for Amazon. The wonderful integration with other booksellers and book sources in Stanza is great for US, but is hardly something Amazon is interested in.

I wouldn't be very surprised to learn that Amazon bought Stanza just to keep it out of B&N's hands.
