If you purchased the books from Sony then the format is LRX. This is a format that has DRM and cannot be removed. Only Sony devices can read LRX ebooks.

I also wanted to say that if you purchased from Sony and the books are in LRX format, Sony allows you to re-download the books in ePub format.
