You know, I always thought this was a German recipe, because the grandmother of the family I stayed with a few times in Kaiserslautern when I was a teenager used to bake these. Maybe you can find the original recipe, if you are a German speaker.

I actually read the recipe in my mother tongue (thus I was able to enjoy all the funny parts, without missing something due lack of language knowledge) , but I guess all translations are more or less the same.
I'll try to find some German version. Then I can give you the link and you could laugh at the French translation.
