Some things are just inexplicable I guess. Similar examples for me are the enduring popularity of such 'appeal to the lowest common denominator' things as:

Bruce Forsyth
The Daily Express
The Daily Mail
Pop Idol
X Factor
Any TV programme with the word 'Celebrity' in the title
Any TV programme featuring dancing

Mind you, Dan Brown is really good
