We would absolutely love to drop the anonymous activation, however since we work with a lot of libraries it is an absolute requirement that we can't require the user to provide identification beyond what the libraries have already done (so yes it's a bit Orwellian to suggest it).

We've come up with a good potential solution (a different way of thinking about this), but aren't ready to discuss it publicly yet.
