I discovered in a previous job that if you want to wind up urban and town planners, calling them surveyors works pretty well... Or at least it did for the couple I inadvertantly called surveyors...

There's a similar situation near here - except all the council has done to discourage people crossing at the dangerous spot is put a sign up saying it's dangerous. Unfortunately, as it's near two bus stops, people are going to carry on crossing there and ignore the crossings further up and down the road.
