Just google american ciztizen and patriot act... you find many cases.

Here is a page with some examples.

And I am sure there are more that we never knew about.

Bottom line is. if you believe in this country and swear to protect and uphold the constitution (which every president does) we can't just make excuse and exceptions in our dealings of criminals.

Also, if I am correct the US are signatories of the 1949 Geneva conventions in which we, as a country, agree to treat war prisoners and civilians of enemy states "Protected persons are entitled, in all circumstances, to respect for their persons, their honour, their family rights, their religious convictions and practices, and their manners and customs. They shall at all times be humanely treated, and shall be protected especially against all acts of violence or threats thereof and against insults and public curiosity."

Aren't we a great country that is true to it's word and it's values in ALL cases? Some of our greatest leaders said it best:

Benjamin Franklin wrote: "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

"How soon we forget history... Government is not reason. Government is not eloquence. It is force. And, like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." George Washington

"
I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations." James Madison

"
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." Abe Lincoln
