I think it's important to bear in mind that iRex doesn't owe you (or me or anyone else except their stockholders) an explanation. For a long time, I felt differently, but it's the simple reality of the matter.
With the DR 1000s, the situation is more akin to the case with the Kindle. There is only one distributor in the US (and I think it's the same in Europe though I'm not sure), and that guy's main business appears to be iRex readers. So iRex set the price there, and that's all there is to it.
We may be unhappy about it, but it's iRex's business, and I mean that very literally. It is their responsibility and their problem if things go badly, not ours.
