There are several things that can break a screen. Dropping it is certainly one. Torquing the screen by bending the device is a second one. This is the one most affected by screen size as it is easy to accidentally apply pressure to a portion of the device. This is why there is a frame around the device in the first place. The third way is direct pressure on the screen. This can happen accidentally when the device in in a pocket or backpack. A good case is the answer to minimize the chances but a 5" isn't automatically more robust than a 6" device.
