The butter bells or crocks, use a base of water to keep it cool enough not to spoil, yet soft enough to spread.

And, no disrespect to you grandma, but I'd rather have my face fall off than melt off........
AHA! so mom was right, gma served us rancid butter (it stayed out all day long). And I think she preferred the melty face look because she looks a good few decades younger than she is. Quite remarkable, actually!

MMMMMMM No Ka Oi!

Oh I forgot, the bes' kine griddle is one of those George Foreman ones. It makes nice griddle marks on the bread. One of the small ones is just right for one of the above recipe!
Agree on the George Foreman grill!! My son would agree on the spam. I have to watch him, or he'll eat a whole can. I only like my spam in tiny squares in fried rice or scrambled eggs.

Same aforementioned son asked for butter with his rice last night. So I gave him a little chunk of butter to melt on it. Doesn't take me long to notice he's eating all the rice plain and saving the butter chunk. To eat alone. This is the same child who leaves finger marks in the butter in the fridge. From grabbing it. To tie this to the sandwich thread, I think his dream sandwich is a huge chunk of spam with a huge chunk of butter. Without the bread.
