I married my husband because we liked each other and we connected... I met him on camp at the start of our university career (which neither of us finished, but that's beside the point...) We never really "dated", neither of use really cares about eating out. And if we do (especially when we were just students), we go to usually cheaper restaurants. The only time we went to a really expensive restaurant was in Sankt Moritz, during our honeymoon...
