There are various ways to remedy contrast under sunlight - see this article on ambient light sensors and OLED

Also, Transparent OLED is apparently excellent under bright sunlight -see this explanation.

The argument for less eye strain resulting from OLED, is based on the absence of fluorescent backlighting in OLED.
