I've never had issues with third party cables.

Power only cables are normally labelled as such in the listing. For instance on Amazon.ca https://www.amazon.ca/USB-USB-C-Secu.../dp/B09479KTC9 is charge only.

Over the years I've bought cables from Anker or UGreen for data transfer with no issues.

The main rational for power only cables is additional device security especially when using public USB ports for charging; there is no way for any data to be surreptitiously stolen from your device.
