Here is how I get these new books into Calibre:

1. Send books to your Kindle device (I can't say whether this works if you don't have a device)
2. Once the books appear as downloaded on the device, plug the device into your computer
3. When the File Explorer window opens, navigate to documents > Downloads > Items01
4. Select all the books with the .KFX extension. (If you are reading a book in the list, deselect it - [Ctrl + click])
5. Open Calibre and drag and drop the selected books to Calibre. The new entries should have a KFX format.
If you see a KFX.ZIP format, you need to delete that item and resend it to your device.

Early on, this worked on all the books I sent to Calibre. Now, at least 2/3 of the books come across as KFX-ZIP. I currently have 94178 items in my Kindle library. I've been using Calibre to catalog all my books - not just Kindle - with little to no difficulty until this Amazon bit of hell came along.

You do know that you can set Calibre to recognize the Kindle when it is connected, and then go to the "Device" tab in Calibre, find the book, right click and select "Add to Library" to do this, don't you?

In the end, these approaches should work the same way but doing it inside Calibre seems much easier to me.
