If you want to bother, you can play with the settings in the Developer options on a Kobo colour device. I have not done a full side by side comparison with a ColorSoft but in a quick comparison of my Libra Color with a friend's ColorSoft, I prefer the better highlight and shadow details on the KLC's default setting. I could change the CFA mode to G2 from the default G1 and it was closer to the ColorSoft including losing detail in the shadows but the colours were brighter.
I do tend to suffer from a lack of belief when anyone refers to the colours on an eInk Kaleido 3 screen as bright and vivid. Heck, even the newest Gallery 3 device I've seen is noticeably a downgrade from most active display devices.
